Stepping into a new dental practice can feel like a journey filled with questions. At Ewing Dental Associates, we’re here to make your first visit as smooth, comfortable, and well-informed as possible. This guide will walk you through what to expect, what to bring, and how to prepare for your initial appointment.
What to Expect
Your first visit is all about getting to know you and your dental health history, needs, and goals. We’ll ask you to fill out the New Patient Registration form prior to the appointment and politely ask you to arrive 15 minutes early.
Comprehensive Dental Examination
Once you’re here, our dentist will review your dental and medical history form and discuss any X-rays, if provided. If needed, we will take new X-rays. We’ll also perform an oral cancer screening, a Temporomandibular joint (TMJ) examination, and a periodontal screening to check for gum disease.
Then, we’ll take dental photographs with an intra-oral camera and perform a thorough and gentle prophylaxis (dental cleaning) with ultrasonic scaler, hand scalers, and floss. After a tooth polishing and an oral hygiene review, we’ll wrap up with a comprehensive dental examination with the dentist to review any recommended treatment and answer any questions.

What to Bring
As you prepare for your initial visit to our practice, please bring along your photo ID, dental insurance card, and any recent dental records or X-rays, if available. This information helps us get a comprehensive understanding of your dental health. If you’re transitioning from our sister-practice, Pennington Dental Associates, rest assured, we can access your previous dental records upon receipt of your consent. This seamless process ensures we’re fully informed and equipped to provide the best possible care.
